Lisa Workman is the president of the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce. She is responsible for bringing together businesses and non-profit organizations in our community to provide support, resources, and networking opportunities to nearly 400 businesses in our town. And it’s no secret that Lisa has one of the best views.
From her office at the headquarters for Fergus Falls’s Chamber of Commerce, right across from Spies Waterfront Park, you get a stunning view of the Ottertail River, and a glimpse into daily life in downtown Fergus Falls. But Lisa is used to a view of the river; she has spent almost her whole life living on one body of water or another. From growing up in Stillwater to her office overlooking the Ottertail, she has spent much of her life on the water, which has instilled in her a love of Minnesota’s outdoors.
When asked what one of her favorite natural places is, she spoke of her family’s hunting land. She enjoys the solitude and peace it provides, and Lisa is sure to take care of it. “We plant anywhere from 25 to 150 trees every year, and in the fall we go out and put bud caps on them so that the deer don’t eat them down to the ground”. Preserving this land for the next generation is important to Lisa and her family.
Lisa compares her role as a steward to that of her job with the Chamber. “When I think of stewardship, I think of taking care of the environment, but also like in my role at the Chamber, we need to be good stewards of the investments of our members. It’s up to us to do the right thing”. It’s no wonder that the passion and dedication Lisa demonstrates for her community also comes through in her love for Minnesota’s natural spaces.
