West Central Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator Application
Position Overview
The Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator will be vital in mapping community dynamics, cultivating strategic relationships, and driving public engagement to support the organization’s mission of building connection, trust and stewardship. This role involves developing and managing relationships with community leaders and partners, amplifying Upstream’s presence through media and public relations, and creating spaces where all community members and groups can connect over their shared commitment to caring for the Minnesota outdoor places.
The ideal candidate will have a strong community outreach, stakeholder management, and communications background, with a passion for facilitating meaningful dialogue and fostering partnerships that promote trust within their community and surfacing shared values.
Key Responsibilities
1. Community Mapping and Stakeholder Analysis
- Identify and map community dynamics, key stakeholders, and influential networks in the community.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date stakeholder database, including community leaders, local organizations, and interest groups.
- Assess/listen to community needs and interests to inform engagement strategies and partnership opportunities.
2. Leader Recruitment and Relationship Management
- Proactively recruit and cultivate relationships with community leaders, influencers, and advocates.
- Develop engagement strategies to build long-term relationships with key stakeholders and leaders in the community.
- Act as a trusted point of contact and resource for Upstream and community leaders, facilitating connections and fostering collaboration.
3. Partner Recruitment and Engagement
- Identify and engage potential partners who align with the Upstream’s organization’s mission and values.
- Facilitate collaboration with local organizations, businesses, and civic groups to promote shared goals and activities.
- Maintain ongoing communication with partners to ensure mutually beneficial relationships.
4. Story Collection and Community Narratives
- Gather stories from community members, groups, and organizations about their stewardship efforts to care for natural places.
- Develop and implement strategies for leveraging these stories in communications and outreach efforts.
5. Event Planning and Facilitation
- Identify potential hosts and help organize events that bring varied perspectives of diverse community members together to discuss shared stewardship values, fostering dialogue and relationship-building through food and shared experiences.
- Ensure all events are inclusive and culturally appropriate, and create a welcoming atmosphere for all participants.
6. Media Engagement and Communications
- Identify and coordinate media opportunities to increase the visibility of Upstream’s work and mission.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
- Help Upstream’s communication team craft and disseminate media releases, op-eds, and stories.
7. Public Speaking and Representation
- Serve as a spokesperson for Upstream at local community events, meetings, and public forums.
- Develop and deliver presentations that inspire community members to engage and take action on building trust and stewardship.
Qualifications
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in grassroots organizing, community outreach, partnership development, stakeholder engagement, or a related role.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Event planning and facilitation experience.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex community dynamics.
- Proficiency in storytelling, public speaking, and media relations.
Location: Must be a resident of Fergus Falls or Pelican Rapids

Working Conditions
- The position will require frequent local travel to meet with community leaders and partners.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to attend community meetings and events.
Job Type & Duration: Part-time, averaging 20 hours per week, beginning in 2025
Pay: $27.00 – $31.00 per hour
