Donnay Dairy: Healthy Land, Healthy Goats, Delicious Chevre

Brad and Leanne Donnay’s dairy farm in Kimball Minnesota is a leading producer of Minnesota goat cheese, or Chevre. Their whole family, Brad, Leanne and their 5 children milk 140 goats twice a day, then turn the milk into 20,000 pounds of delicious cheese a year. Their entire practice is sustainable and with an eye toward caring for their home place. They use 100% local feed with no pesticides. They use chickens to control pests and graze their goats on their ten acres of land.
“We milk 16 goats at a time, and each group of goats has a leader that shows them into the milking barn.” Donnay says, “When it comes to sustainability and taking care of our farm and the health of our goats, we try and lead by example.”

Donnay Dairy goat cheese is distributed in Minnesota, primarily to foodservice clients and high-end cheese shops.

Upstream Survey

Upstream seeks to inspire Minnesotans to care for our natural places through stories of how we use, value and care for them. We are conducting a survey of Minnesotans about our natural places and spaces, how we use them and how we care for them.

Take the Survey
(A lake, river, forest, park, yard, etc.)
(Camping, fishing, etc.; traditions, e.g. family reunions; celebrations, e.g. parties, weddings; reflection/meditation/relaxation)
(Pick up litter, remove invasive species, donate to conservation groups, avoid overuse, etc.)
Where do you look for inspiration for how you care for nature?
