Know someone making a big difference?

From cleaning up local parks to growing pollinator-friendly gardens, Unsung Caretakers are everyday Minnesotans who step up to care for the places we all share. Their efforts often go unseen, but they’re helping Minnesota thrive.

Help us recognize the neighbors, students, farmers, artists, and organizers who embody what it means to care for our land, water, and communities.

3 Ways You Can #CareForPlace This Fall: Collect and Compost Leaves Instead of bagging and sending your fallen leaves to the landfill, use them as a resource. Collect leaves and create a compost pile or bin. Did you know? The resulting leaf mold can be used as a natural soil conditioner in the spring. Leave Some LeavesYou don't have to remove all the leaves from your lawn. Leaving a layer of leaves can benefit the ecosystem by providing a habitat for insects and other small creatures. Tip: Use a mulching lawnmower to chop them into smaller pieces, which will break down more quickly. Use Natural FertilizersOpt for organic and natural fertilizers, such as compost or well-rotted manure, to nourish your soil. Avoid chemical fertilizers that can harm the environment and waterways. — from Instagram
