This collection took me on quite the journey emotionally and spiritually. On August 16th, I had just passed through Superior heading to Prairie Island when I saw a large bird on the side of the road. I passed it, pulled over and then backed up, grabbed my tobacco and gloves. I realized it was a large owl that had been struck and killed. I moved it into a growth of blooming fireweed (the same pinks in the painting) and collected one feather from the side of the road after putting down aseema. I messaged my niijikwe to help identify it – it was an adult Otawage-gookooko'oo / Great Horned Owl. Owls hold their own powerful medicine. They are such powerful messengers between realms. I wanted to honor this beautiful powerful spirit and my nimishoomis who shared his love of owls with me. I have hid the sweat lodge constellation in the piece. This is the second piece to honor this beautiful spirit.🗓️ Artist Fellow application deadline September 25, 2023#Upstream — from Instagram
