Introducing our last Upstream Photo Fellow of the month, Nemuel Sereti (@king_nemuel). The stories behind these incredible photos showcase how different Kenyan farming practices look across Minnesota. 🧑‍ Read below for a short summary of what is going on in these pictures. ️ Pictures 1 & 2: These images include Nemuel's mom, grandmother, niece, and uncle cultivating his mom's backyard to prepare for the Spring blooming season. His mother was raised farming his grandma’s farm in Kenya and has kept the tradition going. She mainly grows greens that Kenyans eat with their meals. Nemuel also added that his niece loves to help his mom every spring and summer in the garden.Pictures 3 & 4: These images are of a Kenyan farmer in Big Lake, MN who takes care of goats, sheep, and chickens. Nemuel reached out to him since he knew him via the community and he was very kind and willing to allow him to come and document how he caters to the animals. He was also able to buy some organic chicken eggs from the farmer at the end!Pictures 5 & 6: This image was taken at a local area near Crystal Airport where many Kenyans in Minnesota have always rented plots of land there to farm seasonally. Included in this photo is a community member whom Nemuel knows and he was tending to his plot to prep it for planting greens.Upstream is thankful to be partnering with Nemuel, a talented artist who cares about bringing Minnesotan stories together…#goupstream #mnupstream #mnphotography #mncommunity #mnfarming #agriculture — from Instagram
